September 27, 2013 - The Capitol Hunger Garden which encompasses land adjacent to the State Capitol Building officially closed for the season. This process requires local volunteers including members from the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and Penn State master gardeners to join efforts to weed and remove all plantings from the garden, as well as any remaining vegetables.
September 27, 2013 – Volunteers generously donated their time to help close the Capitol Hunger Garden for its fourth growing season. Many thanks for another successful season which harvested nearly 800 pounds of produce.
September 24, 2013 – The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank hosted “Can Hunger,” an event which included lining State Street in Harrisburg and the steps of the State Capitol with non-perishable canned food for “Hunger Action Month” and to encourage local business, organizations and individuals to donate.
September 24, 2013 – During a public food drive held in Harrisburg, representatives from various food banks including the Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania, were present to collect non-perishable food items and healthy meal packages for delivery to needy residents. Among the items donated were apples from Hess Bro Fruit Company in Leola, Lancaster County.

September 17, 2013 – Senator Brubaker joins other volunteers at the Downtown Daily Bread, a soup kitchen in Harrisburg which benefits from the vegetables grown in the Capitol Hunger Garden, to serve lunch to local residents in need of food.
